Museum Photo Slide Show – 2015

Each year the displays at the National Museum of Cambridge Glass are changed during the “down” period from November through March. This page features a slide show of photographs from the inside of the National Museum of Cambridge Glass from the year 2015.

We’ve made some changes from past years for 2015. We now have a newly designed room where museum visitors learn about the glass etching process and do a rubbing from an authentic Cambridge Glass Company etching plate. Also new this year is a showcase featuring twelve movies that had Cambridge Glass in them; the movie photos are shown with the piece shown in the movie. The Sample Room is now an experiential gift shop and the third room features Mark Nye’s lifetime collection of Cambridge stemware (donation) that had been shown last year.

New in the museum auditorium is an original Cambridge Glass Company sign that was on the front of the office building for many years (photo). We also have an original finishing bench on stage allowing visitors to sit on the bench and feel what it would have been like to hand finish a piece of glass at the Cambridge Glass Company. (photo).

The Christensen Agate Company – One of Guernsey County’s first novelty glasshouses was Christensen Agate. They manufactured the most perfectly formed marbles in the country. Built in 1927, Christensen was located behind The Cambridge Glass Company complex in East Cambridge. Christensen Agate used cullet from The Cambridge Glass Company that can be seen in the colorful marbles on display. Cullet is broken or waste glass suitable for melting down to be reused. The Christensen Agate Company ceased operations in 1933. Their marbles have become very collectible.
